WHAT IS DISC HERNIATION?
Disc Herniation is a common degenerative spine condition that affects many individuals around middle age and later (40+), also known as Slipped Disc.
Disc Herniation occurs when the outer shell (Annulus Fibrosus) of an Intervertebral Disc becomes so weak that it cracks or tears and allows the disc’s inner gelatinous contents (Nucleus Pulposus) to escape.
This Nucleus Pulposus can irritate nearby nerves which results in pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg. On the other hand, many people experience no symptoms from a herniated disk. Most people who have Disc Herniation do not require open surgery to correct the problem.
