Rafiabad: Living in Darkness for Decades

Rafiabad, meaning “Bulandshahr”, is a prominent region of Baramulla district, widely known for its extensive apple orchards and fertile agricultural land. Despite its natural resources and significant developmental potential, Rafiabad has continued to face serious challenges for decades, particularly in the areas of electricity supply, drinking water availability, road infrastructure, healthcare services, and educational institutions.

One of the primary reasons for this prolonged neglect is the lack of sustained and genuine ground-level engagement by leadership. Developmental issues persist not due to lack of awareness, but due to limited direct interaction with the affected communities and insufficient assessment of on-ground realities.

Measures Required for the Development of Rafiabad

There are several effective measures through which Rafiabad can be developed, provided they are implemented with commitment and accountability:

1. Village-Level Outreach

Elected representatives and administrative officials should regularly visit villages to directly engage with residents and understand their concerns, rather than relying solely on secondary reports.

2. Prioritization of Basic Amenities

Electricity and drinking water must be treated as essential public services and addressed as top priorities, ensuring equitable distribution without political or administrative bias.

3. Establishment of a Central Administrative Facility

A centrally located administrative hub should be developed to facilitate accessibility for residents from all parts of Rafiabad. Despite the existence of three tehsils, service delivery and administrative effectiveness have remained largely unchanged over the years.

4. Establishment of a Sub-District Hospital on the National Highway

There is an urgent need for a sub-district hospital in Rafiabad. The facility should be established along the National Highway, which serves as a central and easily accessible corridor for the entire region. Locating the hospital at this site is critical to ensuring timely medical access and should not be subject to compromise.

In conclusion, Rafiabad does not require assurances alone, it requires structured planning, on-ground implementation, and transparent governance. Meaningful development will occur only when policies are translated into action through sustained engagement and responsible decision-making. A message to everyone

Many of the most intelligent students I grew up studying with never truly reached their potential. Intelligence without hard work becomes irrelevant. The real world doesn’t care about who topped a class it cares about who can perform under pressure, adapt to failure, and rise after setbacks.

Recently, 10th and 12th class results were declared, and social media was flooded with marksheets. I genuinely ask what is there to prove?
These results are not the destination; they are merely the trailer.

History repeatedly reminds us that many so-called “average students” went on to dominate their fields. Even in India’s top universities and IITs, several legends were never school toppers. What set them apart was not early applause, but the hunger to keep improving long after the claps faded.
