Manik soon began to anticipate her coming, and their daily midnight romance quickly became a habit. She gave birth to a beautiful boy, and his crooning startled the entire "hima" and left them puzzled. How their beloved King would feel! In fact, the arrival of the Syiem was announced at the exact same time as the baby's birth. The populace prepared to greet their king with delight, but a wave of dread was waiting in the wings.

There are multiple approaches to how Manik Raitong met his lover.
One such approach was that when he'd wandered off towards the village's outskirts and was on his way down to a shyngiar, a spring spouting from a length of split bamboo, for a drink when he ran into the girl entering from another path.
