• 280 students join the third batch of Vacational Training at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant
The 3rd batch Vacational Training-2026 for undergraduate Engineering students commenced at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) with the orientation programme held at Gopabandhu Auditorium in L&D Department on 1st June 2026. Notably, 280 students of different engineering colleges from across the country have joined the training to learn the nuances of steel making. Mr. Pramod Kumar Sahoo, CGM (HR-L&D) presided over the inaugural session. Present on the occasion was Mr. Pradipta Kumar Sahoo, GM (HR-L&D). The objective of the programme was to familiarize the participants regarding the activities of the integrated steel plant and apprise them of required safety precautions to be taken during the training programme.
During the one day orientation programme the students were informed about the historical perspective of RSP, process flow, products and safety rules and guidelines through presentations and audio-visuals. To give an immersive experience to the trainees, a digital walkthrough of complete production chain of the integrated steel plant are being shown through a VR Film to them.
Thereafter they were assigned to different departments where they could learn the functions and prepare project reports under their designated guides. Mr. Duryodhan Sahoo, AGM (HR-L&D) coordinated the overall programme.
Notably, every summer hundreds of students from various branches of Engineering related to the employees of the Steel Plant join the Vacational Training being provided by the Plant and learn the nuances of Steel making. Students from not only Odisha but from all over the country join the course as a part of their internship. Exposure to the technicalities and functioning of a massive integrated steel plant widens the mental horizon of the students and also shapes their outlook in many ways.

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has strengthened summer care measures for animals, birds and reptiles at Indira Gandhi Park Zoo through a series of proactive initiatives by its Horticulture Department.

The measures include cooling arrangements, clean drinking water supply, enclosure sanitisation and nutritional support to ensure the wellbeing of nearly 200 animals across 18 species during the summer season.

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant's ERW Pipe Plant Closes FY2024–25 with Superior Performance and Major Product Breakthroughs
The Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipe Plant of SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has concluded the fiscal year 2025–26 with exceptional performance, marking significant milestones in product development and market expansion. The unit achieved a landmark revival of API-grade pipe production after a 12-year hiatus, successfully producing and dispatching approximately 8.2 kilometers of API 5L X52 PSL1 pipes within just seven days. The production run delivered an impressive ~99% yield and more than 80% fixed-length compliance, generating a financial benefit of approximately Rs.111.5 lakh.
In another first for the plant, the ERW unit developed and supplied around 14 kilometers of 273.1 mm × 12 mm Fe450 ERW pipes, establishing its capability to manufacture pipes in the higher-thickness segment. This breakthrough opened new business avenues and contributed a benefit of roughly Rs.212 lakh. The plant further strengthened its large-diameter pipeline capability by supplying approximately 8 kilometers of 406.4 mm × 12 mm Fe410 pipes to OPGCL, meeting stringent quality control requirements for high depth-to-diameter ratio applications. This supply order brought a financial benefit of around Rs.185 lakh.
These achievements collectively underscore RSP's growing technical prowess in producing high-specification pipeline grades for the oil, gas, and power sectors. The combined financial benefit from these three major initiatives alone amounts to approximately Rs.508.5 lakh. With these strategic developments, Rourkela Steel Plant continues to position itself as a preferred supplier of advanced steel pipe products for critical infrastructure and national development projects across India.
