Known locally as Kakad, the Indian Muntjac is better known as the Barking Deer, named for its sharp, dog-like alarm call. This distinctive bark is often heard when the deer senses danger, helping alert other wildlife to the possible presence of a predator.
Unlike spotted deer, whose alarm calls are generally triggered by an immediate threat, muntjacs are highly cautious and may continue calling long after a predator has passed or even in response to lingering scent marks. Their vigilance makes them fascinating to observe, though not always the most reliable indicator of a predator's exact location.
The Indian Muntjac is also unusual among deer for its opportunistic diet. While it feeds primarily on leaves, fruits, shoots, and seeds, it has occasionally been recorded consuming bird eggs, small vertebrates, insects, and carrion. This dietary flexibility helps it adapt to a variety of forest habitats.
Small in stature but rich in character, the Barking Deer is one of the jungle's most intriguing and vocal inhabitants.

Birds are among nature's most effective ecosystem engineers. They disperse seeds across landscapes, help regulate insect populations, pollinate flowers, and remove carrion, contributing to nutrient cycling and the overall health of wild habitats.
From fruit-eating species that aid forest regeneration to insectivorous birds that naturally keep herbivore populations in check, each plays a role in maintaining ecological balance. Their diversity and abundance also serve as important indicators of environmental health, reflecting the condition of the ecosystems they inhabit.
Protecting birds means safeguarding the forests, grasslands, wetlands, and waterways that support an extraordinary web of life. Every sighting, song, and flight is a reminder of the interconnectedness of nature.

Few insects illustrate the complexity of nature as strikingly as parasitoid wasps. Unlike true parasites, parasitoids ultimately kill their hosts, using them as a living source of nourishment for their developing young.
Many species lay their eggs on or within caterpillars, spiders, beetles, or other insects, while some have evolved remarkable abilities to influence their host's behaviour, improving the chances of survival for the next generation. Far from being an act of cruelty, this strategy is the result of millions of years of evolution, helping regulate insect populations and maintain ecological balance.
Hidden from view for much of their lives, parasitoid wasps reveal that even the smallest creatures play indispensable roles in the intricate web of life.
