The Mahabalipuram Shore temple from build by the pallavas still standing majestic with morning sun shine. The picture shows both the Gopuram of shore temple and a small miniature temple in the fore ground.

The main temple is dedicated to both Siva and Vishnu showing the faith of the King Narasimhavarman in both the sects.

The Miniature temple is for lord Siva and "Bhuvaraha" -
Bhu refers to Bhoomadevi "Mother Earth" and Varaha is to "Boar".

The Boar(Varahaswami 3nd in Dasavatar). The significance is that when Mother earth was in trouble Lord Vishnu came to the rescue.
Later their offspring Narakasura who's death we celebrate as diwali.
