For Std.3rd and 4th, we conducted Sumanthan games based on basic numerical processes. Many times, students are not pushed enough to go for mental Math which is super important in further learning in Mathematics. In this workshop we tried to push students for that and the good part of the story is that students responded quite enthusiastically to it.

For Std.5th-6th, the focus of the workshop was strengthening and achieving the concept of factors…. The workshop was a combination of activity and game. We feel that for students in Std.5 and 6, the concept of ‘factor’ would be a cake walk…. But in reality students are excellent in methods of deriving factors but not in understanding it as a concept. The workshop helped students realize the different shades of meaning of ‘factors’. The game that we conducted later on was the ‘Star’ of the workshop. Even though it pushed students for complex thinking and application of concepts, they thoroughly enjoyed it.

For Std. 7th-8th, the theme was ‘fraction’... Again a concept which they have already learnt….. This workshop churned students’ thinking a lot just with the help of a few cards, and simple A4 size paper. But we were very much happy to see that students sincerely tried to push themselves to understand the concept of ‘fraction’ along with its applicability. The game of ‘human fraction’ that we played later on was a challenge for students to actually apply fractions in real life. They not only enjoyed it but also jumped to share their ideas on it!

In all the workshops tried to highlight that in Math understanding a concept and its fluency both matter to build a strong foundation which can be achieved through simple Sumanthan game… Eagerly waiting for the next session to happen! We appreciate Sanskar gurukul’s efforts of going beyond textbooks and marks through such activities and are happy to be part of it even in future.

सोबत जे फोटो दिसतायत ते एका शिक्षक प्रशिक्षणाचे फोटो आहेत... अनेकदा मुलांना शिकण्याचा आनंद मिळावा यासाठी विविध प्रकारे प्रयत्न करत राहतो. शिकणं त्यांच्या जगण्याची जोडता येईल, ते applicable करता येईल का? एका जागी बसून lecture पद्धतीने शिकण्याऐवजी कृती, उपक्रम, खेळ यांची जोड देता येईल का? दृक-श्राव्य माध्यमाचा वापर करता येईल का?... एक ना अनेक पर्यायांचा विचार करतो.

पण २९ नोव्हेंबरला मॉडर्न हायस्कूल, शिवाजीनगर येथे झालेल्या शिक्षक प्रशिक्षणात सुमंथनला एक फार महत्वाचा मुद्दा गवसला... जे शिक्षण आनंददायी व्हावं यासाठी आपण धडपडतो आहोत, ते शिक्षण देणारे आपले शिक्षक त्या शिकवण्याचा आनंद घेऊ शकतायत का? जर ते साध्य करता आलं तर मुलांना शिकवण्याचा आनंद घेता येणं यासाठी फार काही वेगळं करावं लागणार नाही!

या प्रशिक्षणाचे फोटो बघताना प्रकर्षाने जाणवलं.... आपले खेळ शिकण्याचीच नाही तर शिकवण्याची प्रक्रियासुद्धा आनंददायी बनवू शकतात! कष्टांचं सार्थक झाल्याचा हाच तो क्षण असावा का?!
