Machine Maker

Thirty years ago, a man from a farming village near Bengaluru walked into manufacturing with no capital, no connections, and a first salary of Rs 240 a month. He spent fifteen years learning the trade on someone else's shopfloor, and in 1996, the year his son was born, he rented a shed, bought two automats, and stopped waiting.

What followed was not a straight line. A factory fire and a pandemic that froze the one segment he depended on entirely. Years where showing up meant absorbing losses that would have made most people walk away. He did not walk away. He diversified, upgraded, and rebuilt, machine by machine, customer by customer, until the company stood on ground it owned and served industries he had once only read about.

The measure his employees put on it is simple: they followed him across cities when he relocated, some after ten years with him, some after fifteen. When he speaks about them, he does not use the word workforce. He says they are part of his body.
