The late Paul Walker was a massive, real-life automotive enthusiast and competitive racer. His passion heavily influenced the franchise's shift toward JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) car culture.

In 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), the silver Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) that Brian O'Conner drives at the beginning of the film actually belonged to Walker personally. He chose the car himself and worked directly with the design team on its setup.
