In October 2017, we conducted a field experiment at the Khadakwasla Lake with over 25 researchers, scholars and young professionals to advance research in underwater acoustics and sediment classification.

Particpants carried out real-time experiments using Side Scan Sonar and Sub-Bottom Profilers to map underwater parameters and study sediment layers in tropical freshwater conditions. The initiative focussed on developing sonar-based sediment classification methologies, building datasets for future research, and supporting sustainable water management strategies. The core findings from this initiative continue to contribute towards a deeper understanding of underwater dynamics, enviornmental conservation, and startegic decision-making in water resource management.

At NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd., we are committed to leveraging science, sonar technology, and data-driven insights to build practical solutions for sustainable and strategic decision making. Read more through the following link here: https://www.nirdhwani.in/khadakwasla

As ocean conditions shift and fish stocks move farther offshore, the need for informed, data-driven fishing practices is becoming increasingly critical.

Tools like Potential Fishing Zone ( ) platforms are helping to reduce uncertainty, improve efficiency, and support more sustainable use of marine resources. Their value lies not just in improving catch efficiency, but in supporting a more sustainable relationship with marine ecosystems.

At NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd., we are working to strengthen these capabilities by building data-driven models and web-based applications that account for dynamic conditions. By translating complex data into practical insights, such tools can enable more informed, timely, and sustainable decisions at sea.

As we move forward, the focus must remain on combining , environmental intelligence, and needs to build resilience across the fisheries sector.

🌊 Did You Know?

In India, where fishing supports millions of livelihoods and contributes nearly 8% to global fish production, Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) advisories are already transforming the sector—reducing search time by up to 70%.

Building on this impact, our model and web application aim to make these insights even more accessible, visual, and actionable for stakeholders across the ecosystem.

Our UDA Digest article walks you through how the web application translates complex ocean data into a simple, interactive map and highlights premium fishing zones, supporting both fisherfolk and policymakers in informed decision-making.

We were delighted to be joined by a distinguished delegation from the Indian Navy, with participation both in person and online. This meeting was led by our Founder and Director, Dr (Cdr) Arnab Das.

Key areas of engagement included advancements in Marine Spatial Planning ( ), aimed at enabling more integrated and data-driven ocean governance; Underwater Radiated Noise ( ) Management, addressing the growing need to balance maritime activity with ecological sustainability; and the development of a Passive Sonar Simulator, which has significant applications in capacity building, training, and operational preparedness.

The interaction provided a valuable platform to exchange perspectives, align on emerging challenges, and explore avenues for future , particularly to strengthen Underwater Domain Awareness ( ) and support sustainable operations.
