Connecting with Dairy Farmers in Solapur District, Maharashtra

Our team recently conducted a series of farmer interaction meetings in Madha, District Solapur, engaging directly with dairy farmers to discuss Ayushman Cowfit—an intelligent cattle health monitoring platform that provides real-time insights into animal health, heat detection, activity levels, and breeding cycles.

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, one message stood out — AI must reach India’s smallest farmers. Dr Bharat Kakade, President & Managing Trustee of BAIF Development Research Foundation, highlighted that integrating crops, livestock, renewable energy, and AI can help small and marginal farmers maximise yields while minimising inputs.

With over 85% of Indian farmers owning small landholdings, challenges like erratic rainfall, rising input costs, and livestock health risks remain constant. Yet, deep smartphone pe*******on and rural connectivity now create an opportunity to convert digital access into real income growth.

BAIF shared a bold but practical vision: with integrated farming models and AI-enabled advisory, even one acre can generate up to ₹10 lakh annually — and this shift is already happening on the ground.

In partnership with Areete Business Solutions Private Limited, BAIF has introduced AI-enabled smart neck collars (Ayushman Cowfit) for livestock. At Ayushman Cowfit, our AI-powered collar monitors rumination, activity, heat cycles, early disease indicators, and overall health in real time.

For small farmers, livestock is working capital. Early detection prevents losses, timely heat alerts improve conception rates, and continuous monitoring boosts milk yield while reducing medical expenses — delivering higher productivity with lower risk.

The future of Indian agriculture will be built in villages — powered by data, strengthened by resilience, and scaled through innovation. AI is not replacing farmers; it is empowering them.
