Statewide Rabies Awareness Campaign Completed Successfully Across Kerala

Mission Rabies, in partnership with the Animal Husbandry Department and supported by Compassion for Animal Welfare Association (CAWA), successfully concluded its statewide rabies awareness campaign across Kerala’s 14 districts. The campaign, flagged off by the Honourable Minister of Animal Husbandry, Chinchu Rani, on December 4, 2024, in Thiruvananthapuram, ended on January 1, 2025.

Traveling over a month, the awareness vehicle reached diverse communities, educating the public about rabies prevention, dog bite management, and the importance of timely vaccinations. Equipped with an LED screen, educational videos, and informative materials, the campaign covered schools, hospitals, public spaces, and coastal areas, ensuring widespread outreach.

Key Highlights:

Thiruvananthapuram: The campaign covered schools, healthcare facilities, and public areas. A critical intervention ensured prompt medical care for a tourist bitten by a stray dog.
Kollam: Activities included a flash mob at SN Women’s College and targeted sessions for Swiggy and Zomato delivery personnel.
Alappuzha: Engagement with fishermen, houseboat drivers, and hospital staff marked the district's campaign.
Kottayam: Awareness sessions were held in schools, town centers, and Sunday schools, with significant participation from local communities.
Idukki: The campaign visited public locations, schools, and bus stands, raising awareness effectively.
Ernakulam: Sessions covered schools, healthcare facilities, and popular public hubs, including Vyttila Mobility Hub and Cherai Beach.
Thrissur: The campaign focused on bus stands, beaches, and medical institutions, engaging diverse audiences.
The vehicle continued through Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, ensuring comprehensive awareness efforts.

The campaign’s success highlights the collective efforts of government bodies, NGOs, and volunteers in combating rabies and promoting responsible pet care.
