THE FRENCH REVOLUTION 🇫🇷
From absolute monarchy to the birth of a republic.

France before 1789 was deeply unequal. Society was divided into three estates, where the clergy and nobility enjoyed privileges while the common people carried the burden of heavy taxes and hunger. Economic crisis and royal extravagance pushed the kingdom to the edge of collapse.

On 14 July 1789, the storming of the Bastille became the spark that ignited revolution. It was not just an attack on a prison, but a challenge to tyranny itself.

The years that followed reshaped France. The Reign of Terror showed the revolution’s violent extremes, while the rise of Napoleon marked a shift from chaos to centralized power. Yet, beyond bloodshed and battles, the revolution planted powerful ideas.

Liberty. Equality. Popular sovereignty.

These ideals crossed borders and changed the world, redefining the relationship between people and power forever.
