Kev stopped for this picture on his way to the monthly mod get-together in the west end. I’m certain that he and the rest of these boys still have many miles left on the clock, nevertheless, they’re part of a world that will soon, in relative terms be no more, and that’s a damn shame. Mod culture shaped British society undoubtedly for the better. It bridged racial divides, brought black music into the mainstream by embracing it and not ripping it off, created new musical genres, made scooters cool and left a stamp on fashion that will be there as long as people are still wearing clothes. Being a photographer (and a bit of an old mod, at least on the occasions that I make the effort) but mainly as someone who’s sick to death of the ever growing trend among the British to hate anything British… I love this shot. I love these guys. I was due a fresh dose of Quadrophenia. Caught it on the underground.
