World Education Summit- Innovation in Education session.
In this session on innovation in education and challenges teachers and administrators face, I talk about how teaching is akin to water. Water has humility. You can say what you need to about it and it will respond as water does. Likewise, teachers need great humility. They face challenges every day and must maintain their humility.
Secondly, teachers are presented with unique challenges from children, admins, parents, and the community. Like water, when a huge rock is dropped in a stream, water will find a path around it and continue on with its mission...to flow forward. Teachers must find ways to deal with rocks dropped in their path. Administration, don’t drop rocks on your teachers! Drop pebbles not rocks. Help teachers flow and children will benefit.
Thirdly, like water that can take many forms, liquid water, solid ice, or steam, water adapts. Teachers must adapt as well. Every child is different and presents unique opportunities.
Lastly, water quenches thirst and helps us live and thrive.
Teaching is like water.
