During the late 16th century, the distinct lacquered wooden box was developed, and over the next few hundred years bento was used not just to pack lunches, but for entertaining, theatre hall, travel, tea services, and more.

The term 'Bento' originates from Japan and literally translates to 'convenient' or 'convenience'. In Japan, Bento boxes are generally referred to as a single portion meal that is either home-cooked or for takeaway.

So that was the history and origin of bento boxes. Today it's one of the most trending cake box. Bento or lunchbox cakes are miniature cakes, around 3-4 inches in diameter that fit neatly inside takeout boxes, with all types of cake and frosting combinations, from whipped cream and buttercreams with a different flavors of cakes.
