At a time when funding to the country's startups has slowed down by more than 70%, the news about Steadview and Temasek in talks to invest $50-$60 million in smart fan maker Atomberg has us wondering about the trajectory of startups and growth.

The startup has taken the traditional approach to growth, where R&D has been the primary focus and spending on advertising has mostly been done in local markets. The startup is competing with traditional category players like Havels and is operating in a less crowded premium segment without burning through a lot of money.
