Gangtok District Crosses 80,000 Mark in Distribution of Enumeration Forms on Ninth Day of SIR 2026 Exercise

Gangtok, June 8 (IPR): Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across Gangtok District have continued the door-to-door distribution of Enumeration Forms (EFs) under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, reaching electors across urban, rural and remote areas of the district.

Special efforts have been made to reach Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and elderly electors who who are confined to their homes, ensuring their participation in the revision process. In several remote areas, BLOs have covered long distances and difficult terrain to deliver Enumeration Forms to every eligible elector.

The concerned BLOs of Tumen-Lingi Assembly Constituency have traversed remote and challenging terrain, including areas affected by recent landslides, to reach electors and distribute Enumeration Forms as part of the ongoing revision exercise.Their efforts have helped ensure that electors living in remote and hard-to-reach locations are not left out of the process.

As a result of these continued efforts, Gangtok District has crossed the 80,000 mark in the distribution of Enumeration Forms. As of today, 83,681 electors have been covered, accounting for 68.46 per cent of the district's total 1,22,240 electors.

The constituency-wise distribution of Enumeration Forms is as follows:

16-Tumen-Lingi: 13,157

17-Khamdong-Singtam: 9,828

23-Shyari: 11,275

24-Martam-Rumtek: 15,195

25-Upper Tadong: 7,784

26-Arithang: 7,771

27-Gangtok: 7,030

28-Upper Burtuk: 9,410

32-Sangha: 2,231

The distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms through house-to-house visits by BLOs will continue till June 28, 2026.

त्यसपछि उनी सिधै जंतर-मन्तरतर्फ प्रस्थान गरेका छन्, जहाँ CJP द्वारा आयोजित विरोध प्रदर्शन हुने कार्यक्रम रहेको छ। प्रदर्शनका लागि दिल्ली प्रहरीले सुरक्षा व्यवस्था कडा बनाएको बताइएको छ।

||Himalayan Grace Academy Observes World Environment Day

Namchi, June 5: Himalayan Grace Academy, Chisopani, South Sikkim, observed World Environment Day 2026 with a plantation drive and campus cleanliness campaign.

Students and teachers actively participated in planting saplings and promoting environmental awareness.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal highlighted this year's theme, "Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future," and stressed the importance of tree plantation and reducing plastic use to combat global warming.

The programme also featured an environmental slogan recitation by Upahar Rai of Class IV and an informative speech by Jiya Rai of Class V. The event concluded with sweet distribution, leaving students inspired to protect and preserve the environment.

Namchi, June 5: Heavenly Nirvana Path Organisation (HPO), Namchi District, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 at Lovism Garden, Lametar, under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."

The programme highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable living. Participants gathered to raise awareness about protecting natural resources and promoting a greener future for coming generations.

The event reflected the organisation's commitment to environmental stewardship and encouraged community participation in building a cleaner and healthier environment.

||Special Gram Sabha and Plantation Drive Mark World Environment Day

Namchi, June 5: The 46-Sanganath Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) organized a Special Gram Sabha-cum-Plantation Drive on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026.

The program focused on environmental conservation, community participation, and promoting a greener future through tree plantation activities.

Local residents and stakeholders actively participated in the initiative.

|| Several parked vehicles were damaged after a tree collapsed during strong winds at Balutar in Gangtok District on Wednesday evening. No casualties were reported.
