There’s pandal hopping, sure, and then there is this. Alfresco lunch on a stormy Nabami afternoon in the lush greenery of Jiraan The Retreat.

The older I get the more I appreciate the balance of flavors in Bengali cuisine. Or maybe it’s just 5 long years of the Mumbai food scene.🫣

In the photo: A quintessentially Bengali thali with a melt in your mouth mutton curry slow cooked in a clay pot over wood fire. The rich and slightly smoky taste haunts my taste buds. Sigh.

As the world is readying to go to hell yet again, I seek solace in the memory of 10 glorious days spent in my beloved Bengal. It was replete with family, birthdays, dogs, incredible food, nostalgia, and a totally hatke wedding thrown in for good measure.

This gaye holud (haldi) ceremony was quite the production with colored flares, Ray Bans and slo-mo videos. When it came to the ululations, spine chilling and quintessentially Bengali, the Purbo Bharat Mahila Sangathan, and yours truly, stepped up. Just look at our post ulu glow, lol!

I draped a buttery Bhinshupuri silk and spent the afternoon looking like a luscious basket of apples. 😉
