On 28th September, Kanhaiya Kumar joined the Indian National Congress, saying he's, joining India's most democratic party (he stresses on democratic in the press conference) because of Congress doesn't survive, the country won't either.

It has been widely regarded as a strategy by the Indian National Congress to showcase a strong youth icon in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and establish relevance among the youth. Rahul Gandhi cannot be established as the youth icon of the party as it battles allegations of familialism and nepotism.

Inside sources have claimed that it has been Rahul Gandhi's plan to induct Kanhaiya Kumar into the INC since 2016 during the JNU row seeing how his speeches deeply impacted the youth.

It remains to be seen how much impact Kumar creates in the party, and if this decision can boost the Congress' dwindling presence in the country.
