All of us have been there, and continue to be there each year around this time. Performance Review and discussions around the objective and subjective qualifiers, indicators and results of how our performance has been through the year.
The feeling is a reminder of standing with a report card in front of dad, accounting for all the mischief and some low and some high grades. The outcome was a forgone conclusion on many an occasion.

Increments and Promotions can be key motivators and demotivators depending upon, which side the pendulum swung, much as people would like to push it aside and say otherwise. The discussion, decision and the outcome does have an impact, and for many who don’t fall in the top 10-15%, the day and many days and months after that seem like doom and gloom.
It’s a vulnerable time laden with emotions, and very easy to take a hasty, sometimes wrong decision, almost like getting into a rebound relationship after a breakup, and that’s when one can do with a sounding board and a mentor to hand hold.
