In maritime operations, "Report" and "Record" are not the same.
A report communicates important information that needs attention, while a record creates an official log for future reference. Knowing when to report and when to record is a basic but essential part of safe shipboard communication.

Many people use the terms GPS and GNSS interchangeably, but they're not the same.
GPS is one satellite navigation system, while GNSS is the umbrella term that includes multiple constellations such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and NavIC. More satellite systems can improve positioning reliability and availability.

DR Position and EP (Estimated Position) are often confused, but they are not the same.
A DR Position is calculated using the ship's course, speed, and time. An EP goes one step further by considering external factors such as wind, current, or observations when an exact fix isn't available.
Knowing the difference helps every navigator make better decisions at sea.

True Trail and Relative Trail may appear similar on radar, but they provide different information.
True Trail shows a target's actual movement over the ground, while Relative Trail shows how that target is moving in relation to your own ship. Understanding the difference helps bridge teams assess traffic and make safer navigation decisions.
