At IRPC 2025, Mr Atul Choudhari, Chief Technology Officer at Tata Consulting Engineers ( ), presented a comprehensive overview of ammonia decomposition technologies as a key enabler for scalable hydrogen logistics.

The session explored four key pathways: , , and . Each pathway offers distinct advantages in energy efficiency, operating conditions and renewable integration.

Thermocatalytic processes using Ru, Ni or Fe catalysts are the most mature, achieving high conversion rates at 400 to 600 degrees Celsius. Photocatalytic and plasma catalytic methods, currently at pilot stages, show promise for low-temperature operations and solar energy use. Electrocatalytic decomposition, which operates under ambient conditions, offers potential for coupling with renewable electricity, though further work is needed to enhance kinetics and scalability.

With its high energy density and well-established global infrastructure, ammonia provides a practical and efficient route for hydrogen storage and transport. According to the International Energy Agency, ammonia could account for up to 25 per cent of global hydrogen production by 2050, particularly in sectors that are hard to decarbonise such as shipping and heavy industry.

Our Experience with Podar International School – A Cautionary Account

1. We inquired about admission to Std. 1 for our child at Podar International School.
2. We received an “Accepted” email that made no mention of the requirement to submit therapy-related documents. The message conveyed congratulations and a warm welcome to the Podar family, with full confidence that our child would thrive at the school.
3. Based on this, we completed the admission formalities, paid the full fees and collected the books and uniform.
4. While filling out the admission form, we disclosed our child’s speech delay, but not ADHD—as there were no concerns raised by the previous school (Vibgyor School, Pune).
5. On the first day, everything went smoothly. We then submitted our child’s medical and therapy history to ensure that his treatment continued uninterrupted, with a goal of staying in one school up to Class 10.
6. On the second day, our child was emotionally unsettled due to the new environment, unfamiliar faces and adjustment difficulties.
7. The school called his mother to take him home and insisted that we arrange a shadow teacher. They claimed to have references for shadow teachers, but that the parents would need to bear the cost. He would only be allowed to attend school if accompanied by one. Despite claiming inclusivity for neurodivergent children, the school lacks adequate infrastructure and preparation for such situations.
8. The school initially said they would retain the admission fee and refund the tuition fee. However, they refunded only the admission fee and kept the tuition fee. We were also not informed that the academic year had already commenced in April—we discovered this only through their learning app.
9. We are requesting a refund of the tuition fees as we feel misled, mistreated and manipulated. The principal and staff have shown a lack of sensitivity and empathy. The management seems to operate with a profit-oriented mindset, prioritizing concealment over accountability.
10. As local residents, we are already facing environmental stress and air quality degradation due to the over-commercialization caused by such establishments. Adding to our hardship, this incident has inflicted emotional and financial strain—especially as we had taken a loan to pay the school fees.
