Ayurvastra • Process

Creating the perfect Ayurvastra fabric involves a carefully planned and controlled 5-step process.

1. Desizing: Natural, mineral-rich water is used to wash the cloth, removing sizing, gums and oils used in the process of weaving.

2. Scouring: Rids the fabric of impurities. The fabric or yarn is boiled in an alkaline solution to wash out any impurities.

3. Dyeing: The organic fabric is dyed in a mixture of herbal dyes made specifically for the ailment to be treated. Post this complex process, the fabric is allowed to cool before being repeatedly washed and ultimately left to dry in the shade.

4. Finishing: By sprinkling pure water on the cloth, this process helps stretch and soften it.

5. Mordanting: The final step. To brighten and preserve the fabric’s shade of colour, it is further treated with a multitude of natural mordants such as rubhabs leaves, oils, alum, haitaki fruit extract, to name a few.

This organic and natural process ensures that the Ayurvastra fabrics do not harm the wearer in any way.
