How the Thames went from being ‘biologically dead’ to one of the world’s cleanest rivers in 60 years 01/05/2022

We have polluted our rivers. In India, two our largest rivers are among the most polluted rivers in the world. It is so hard to believe that Thames was once the most polluted river in the world- laden with waste, biologically deficient. It took 60 years to bring it back to life. But this gives me hope! Let us start now. Will it take 60 years? I don't know. But I do know that things won't change till we start taking corrective action.

How the Thames went from being ‘biologically dead’ to one of the world’s cleanest rivers in 60 years One of the main turning points in the river’s health was the installation of large oxygenators, or ‘bubblers’, to increase dissolved oxygen levels.

HOW TO CARE FOR AN INJURED BUTTERFLY? HELP!!

Stuti found a butterfly with broken rear wings. She thought I could help it because she was there around me when I was researching butterflies early in 2021 for creating the Butterfly Research Notebook (basically a research-based unit study guide). She had seen me watching a video on how to care for and feed an injured butterfly.

So, she brought this one to me and said, "Mumma, this butterfly is injured. We can feed it and keep it alive. It could become my pet."

At the moment we''re trying to keep it alive by feeding it 20% w/w sugar solution. Hoping to keep it alive. Whether I will succeed or not, I don't know. But I won't give up on it. Neither will Stuti.

Please let me know how else I can care for this helpless little creature. I'll be waiting for your comments.

One morning last April, just after the whole world went into a lockdown, Stuti and I were walking around and enjoying the spring breeze. Suddenly, she yells out, "Mumma.. white butterfly" and then after a minute or so, "Mumma yellow butterfly".. "Mumma big butterfly"... "Mumma such a small butterfly".. while she went around chasing butterflies, I began to ponder, "Well.. my daughter is chasing 5 different species of butterflies.. how many species of these dainty creatures exist in the world?".. turns out there are about 2000 species of butterflies adorning our skies!!

If you or your child or your students would like to learn more about butterflies, probably you could check out the Butterfly Research Notebook I created.
