Most people associate Art Deco with New York skyscrapers or Mumbai’s Marine Drive. But did you know traces of the same movement existed in Lucknow?

This research project explores how a global architectural style, _Art Deco_ travelled, transformed, and found a distinct expression within Lucknow’s streets, bazaars, homes, and mixed-use buildings.

Through archival research, mapping, field surveys, and building documentation, the study traces how Art Deco was adapted through local crafts, materials, and existing urban conditions rather than appearing as a planned architectural district.

The result reveals a regional form of modernity, one embedded within everyday architecture and the layered urban fabric of Lucknow.
