A new update to

The Free and Open Source (FOSS) reference management software Zotero has launched Zotero 7 (64 bit), the biggest update in Zotero’s 18-year history. Here are some of the new changes in the new version that I liked:

A New Interface: Zotero 7 introduces a redesigned user interface that enhances usability and accessibility. The icons are more appealing and intuitive, and the side panes are more elegant and useful now.
The Add Citation dialog is also smarter now, suggesting items we have selected in the items list or have open in the reader. There is a new ‘retracted’ icon also, to indicate items that have been retracted. There is an integrated Google Scholar search for individual items as well.

Dark Mode: A dark mode option is introduced. For those who use other applications in the dark mode, this is a big relief.

Improved PDF Reader and Annotations: The built-in PDF reader has been significantly improved, with support for EPUB files and snapshot capabilities, allowing one to annotate and highlight documents directly within Zotero, with options for creating ink, underline, and text annotations. These annotations look cool, and will have to check them out.

Smart Reference Popups: This new feature offers contextual citation suggestions, streamlining the process of inserting references while writing.

An Android App for Zotero is also expected soon to complement the already available IOS App and some third party Apps.
