On 1st April 2014, a 3rd yr engineering student of Tech India College of Technology, Soham Biswas, met with a terrible accident while crossing the road in front of his college at New Town. He was hit by a speeding Mercedes (WB-02-AD-9450), belonging to Mr. Tarun Kumar Jhunjhunwala, s/o G.D. Jhunjhunwala. Even after 21 days the boy is still in comma, admitted in Apollo Gleneagles. The cost of the treatment has already reached 4 lacs and is can easily shoot to 30-40 lacs depending on the extent of the brain injury (behavioral, psychological, physical), which can only be ascertained after he regains consciousness. The family of Soham comprises of his father and mother who runs a small Xerox shop in Behala Parnashree. He doesn't have any siblings - he is the only child! An accident claim case will be lodged but that will happen only after he is discharged from the hospital. To cope with this huge cost (despite the fact that friends and relatives are supporting), the grief-striken innocent parents, along with 2 other aged relatives, visited Mr. Jhunjhunwala's house (1/3 Rowland Road, Kolkata 20) on 20th April 2014, Sunday morning at 8:30am. The sentry allowed the family through the gate and only up to the driveway. Then a messenger was sent upstairs to Mr. Jhunjhunwala's residence informing the Mr. Swapan Biswas and family wanted to meet him. They were told that "babu so raha hai - monday ko office mein miliye". The family asked for the office address and the messenger again went upstairs and returned with a fictitious office address (Eco Express, 3D Building, Rajarhat - that's it!!!). The family decided to write a letter in plain paper, mentioning the purpose of visit (seeking financial assitance as loan, which will be paid back to him as soon as the insurance claim is settled). Meanwhile, the "malik" called the "naukar" on naukar's cell, asking whether the family is still there or not. The family wrote a simple letter seeking an audience, assuring that it would be a most humble/peaceful meeting. The messenger and the sentry refused to accept the letter and eventually they were physically forced out of the gate. While going out, the letter was thrown to the sentry's small cabin.
Any one can search for Mr. Tarun Jhunjhunwala and find out how rich, powerful he is. With a man of his social and economic stature, one expects at least some level of decency, compassion and humanity. He turned out to be the classic "rich but ruthless" guy as shown in the Bollywood movies.
Friends, let's all condemn this guy. He will not help this poor child or his family but he shouldn't be able to show his face with dignity again in this society - he shouldn't have any standing in this society of human beings.
Please forward/circulate this to as many friend as you can.
