SPIE Student Chapter, BPPIMT
12/03/2026
On 8th and 9th February, 2026, the SPIE Student Chapter of BPPIMT organized a Social Awareness Program at Sagardwip Island in the Sundarbans region of West Bengal. The initiative was carried out by the core committee members along with Faculty Advisor Dr. Ivy Majumdar, Dr. Surajit Mandal, and Mr. Arindrajit Chaudhury. The visit aimed to understand the challenges faced by the remote island community and explore sustainable solutions to strengthen the local education system.
The program was conducted at Khelaghar Sishu Sikha Kendra in Radhakrishna Pur village under Rudranagar Gram Panchayat, Sagardwip Block. Due to geographical isolation and infrastructural limitations, the area suffers from irregular electricity supply, which severely affects students’ academic progress. During interactive sessions with teachers, students, and villagers, it became evident that frequent power cuts restrict study hours and limit access to modern educational tools.
To address this issue, the team distributed solar panels and solar batteries to ensure a sustainable energy source for the school. The villagers warmly welcomed the team and organized a grand lunch as a gesture of gratitude. The program successfully combined awareness, engagement, and action, reinforcing the Chapter’s commitment to sustainable community development.
