Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan was a powerful tropical cyclone which caused widespread damage over East India and Bangladesh. It was the strongest storm to strike the Ganges Delta since 2007.

Amphan was also the first super cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal since the 1999 Odisha cyclone, as well as the second-most intense tropical cyclone worldwide in 2020.

The first tropical cyclone of the 2020 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, Amphan developed from an area of low pressure over the southern Bay of Bengal.
