Lalbaba Engineering

This is going to be different.

That was the thought running through my head seven years ago as I drafted my own appointment letter on my first day. Lalbaba was at a crossroads back then—there was only one IR at Haldia unit, the HR team was being completely overhauled, a critical issue needed to be addressed, and here I was, practically starting from scratch.

Since then, from a Rs. 200 crore company to a Rs.1100 crore+ one, I’ve had a front-row seat to Lalbaba’s growth—witnessing multiple expansions, launch of Udaan & our L&D Centre Gurukul. In a traditional manufacturing setup & mindset, bringing in HRMS, launching KPIs and KRA-driven practices or introducing concept of change management- none of them were easy, but that’s how we went from a No HR to an HR-driven culture in 7 years.

Having worked with promoter-driven organisations before, what stands out here is the mindset. The leadership here is highly driven & forward-looking, so there’s no space for complacency. Just giving your best wasn’t enough, so I had to upgrade myself continuously, completing 12–15 professional courses, along with a PhD and LLB- none of which had been possible without the support from the management.
Has it been all "rosy"? Honestly, no. There have been heated disagreements and moments of deep doubt. But I’ve never once looked for the exit. Because the role I came in for, the vision I see for Lalbaba— feels far from complete, and honestly, I feel I still have miles to go before I quit.
