**Interesting facts about Kolhapuri Chappals**

1. In King Shahu Maharaj's( First Maharaja of Kolhapur) kingdom, artisans were encouraged to make the best variety of chappals(shoe) for their King.
This gave birth to Kolhapuri chappal.

2. First ever made Kolhapuri chappal was very thick of weight around 2kg and Shahu Maharaj was the first person to wear it.

3. In 1920 the Saudagar family further developed Kolhapuri chappal. This design was thin.

4. It was sent to Mumbai and was noticed by J.J. & Sons in the Prarthana Samaj neighbourhood in South Mumbai.

5. Later J.J and Sons got an order from Calcutta where it became more and more famous and further increased its popularity.
