In 2007, a mother sat in the corridor of Tata Memorial Hospital, Asia’s largest cancer centre watching her daughter fight leukaemia.

Around her, hundreds of other parents were drowning. No money for food. No one to turn to. Their children were receiving chemotherapy, and they could not afford a meal. She made a quiet decision that when this was over, she would come back for them.

18 years. 7 years of intensive palliative care training. 15 children, then 100, then 1000, then 7000+.

Today, SOLACE runs 9 centres across Kerala. It is present in 5 countries. It extended over ₹6 crore in support in a single year. And it is referred to by medical colleges and hospitals across the state because doctors know that when a family walks through those doors, Solace will take care of the rest.

That mother is Sheeba Ameer.

She didn’t have a blueprint. She had a memory — of every face she saw in that hospital corridor — and she refused to let it go 💜
