Production data has a shelf life.

A report that identifies a deviation after the shift ends can tell you exactly what went wrong. But by then, production has already moved forward.

The gap may have widened. Work-in-progress may have built up. The next process may already be feeling the impact.

At AFPL, this is the thinking behind PULSE, our in-house production tracking system built for real-time visibility.

It helps us see production as it is happening, track progress against plan, and bring deviations into view earlier, while there is still time to respond.

Because the real value of production data is not simply in knowing what happened.

It is knowing early enough to do something about it.

Carbon emissions are no longer only an environmental concern. In many parts of the world, they now carry a measurable economic cost.

In 2025, countries raised a record $107 billion by charging companies for carbon dioxide emissions through carbon pricing systems, according to World Bank data.

In simple terms, carbon taxes and emissions trading systems are designed to put a cost on emissions and create an incentive for businesses to reduce them.

For manufacturing, this makes the conversation around energy use increasingly relevant. How much energy a facility consumes, where that energy comes from, and how efficiently it is used all matter when looking at operational emissions.

At AFPL, our 1.1 MW solar power system forms part of our approach towards cleaner energy use and reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

As carbon becomes more closely measured and priced across global markets, understanding emissions is becoming an important part of modern manufacturing.

Artificial intelligence is transforming manufacturing.

It can analyse data faster, improve process efficiency, identify patterns, and support better decision-making.

But footwear manufacturing has always been more than a sequence of processes.

It is also a craft built on judgement.

Knowing when a leather panel won't perform as expected despite meeting specification.

Recognising a fit issue before it reaches production.

Making small adjustments during development that improve the final product without changing the original design intent.

These are decisions shaped by experience, not algorithms alone.

That is why, even as manufacturing becomes more intelligent, investing in people remains just as important as investing in technology.

At AFPL, skill development continues to be an integral part of our manufacturing ecosystem because the future belongs to manufacturers who combine advanced technology with experienced people, not one instead of the other.

At first glance, it's just a wall of shoes.

But to a product development team, every pair tells a different story.

A different consumer.
A different market.
A different performance requirement.
A different set of design and manufacturing decisions.

Some needed to be lighter.
Some needed to be more durable.
Some needed to flex better.
Some needed to withstand different climates and usage conditions.

The finished product is often the easiest part to see.
What sits behind it is a series of decisions, trade-offs, refinements, and development cycles that ultimately shape the outcome.

Every shoe on this wall arrived at a different answer.

And that's what makes product development interesting.

The interesting thing about western boots is not that they are trending again.

It is that they continue to remain relevant despite changing consumer preferences, fashion cycles, and market conditions.

Over the years, the category has evolved far beyond its traditional roots.

Today, western-inspired boots are appearing in luxury collections, contemporary fashion, lifestyle footwear, and everyday wardrobes. The silhouette remains recognisable, but the interpretation continues to change.

The materials are different.
The styling is different.
The consumer is different.

The silhouette endures.

Few footwear categories have demonstrated this kind of longevity.

Perhaps that is because truly enduring products do not survive by staying the same.

They survive by adapting without losing their identity.

The resurgence of western boots is less about a comeback and more about evolution.
