Assam has begun a genetic analysis of rhino horn samples collected from the 2,479 horns destroyed in 2021 as part of the fight against poaching and illegal trade.

✅ 2,573 samples verified and repackaged at Kaziranga
📦 Sent to Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun under the RhoDIS India programme
🧬 DNA analysis will help track:
– Genetic diversity
– Breeding potential
– Population health
– Crime links in rhino poaching

The goal? To build a comprehensive DNA database of Assam’s rhinos and strengthen conservation like never before! 🛡️

📚 Major Overhaul in Teacher Education | NCTE Draft 2025 ✍️

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is revising its draft regulations for teacher training — the first major update since 2014. This comes in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and follows over 6,700 public responses and consultations.

🔍 Key Highlights:
▪️ New structure proposes 5 specialised roles for teachers — from preschool to Grade 10
▪️ Introduction of Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP) combining degrees like B.A./B.Sc with B.Ed
▪️ Over 13,000 teacher training institutes must shift to multidisciplinary models by 2030
▪️ 2,224 institutes derecognised for non-compliance
▪️ Online inspections, GPS tracking & PAN verification introduced to curb malpractice

⚠️ Challenges Ahead:
Rigid specialisation may hurt teacher deployment, especially in rural/remote areas

Private schools may face staffing difficulties

Concerns over career growth and salary gaps for teachers

A special expert committee including NITI Aayog, MoE, and universities is reviewing teacher demand-supply trends. Their report is due in 6 months.

🕯️ Martyrs’ Day | Kashmir’s Unfinished Story 🇮🇳

Today, on 13 July, Kashmir remembers the 22 brave souls who were killed in 1931 while protesting the Dogra regime. Once an official holiday, this day marked Kashmir’s political awakening — but after the abrogation of Article 370, it was scrapped.

In 2025, even with an elected government in place, leaders of National Conference and PDP were put under house arrest for trying to visit the Martyrs’ Cemetery.
The BJP opposes this commemoration — backing instead the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh.

🗣️ Omar Abdullah calls the detentions “undemocratic” and compares the 1931 killings to Jallianwala Bagh.
