Tawi Mahotsav sees record turnout; Tawi river front becomes new hub in Jammu
Jammu, April 16: The three-day Tawi Mahotsav concluded with an overwhelming public response at the Tawi Riverfront, drawing an estimated 35,000 to 40,000 visitors and transforming the venue into a vibrant hub of culture, recreation and community engagement.
The grand festival was inaugurated by HonтАЩble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha, while also dedicating completed phase 1 of tawi river front to the people of Jammu.
Nasha Mukt Abhiyan gained new momentum during the event through pledge ceremonies, youth engagement & awareness sessions.
On concluding day HonтАЩble Deputy Chief Minister graced the occasion and participated in grand Tawi Arti.
Boating emerged as a major attraction, with nearly 4,000 visitors taking part, enjoying the riverfront like never before.
Children were among the biggest beneficiaries of the festival, with nearly 10,000 youngsters participating in swings, fun rides and dedicated amusement zones, creating a lively and family-friendly atmosphere throughout the three days.
The Mahotsav also featured more than 50 stalls offering a wide array of local cuisines, traditional delicacies, handicrafts and regional products, giving a strong boost to local artisans, self-help groups and small entrepreneurs.
The event was supervised by Commissioner Secretary H&UDD Ms Mandeep Kaur and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Chairman Jammu Smart City, Ramesh Kumar.
The bustling marketplace added colour and energy to the event, making it a complete cultural experience.
A major attraction was the organisation of over 100 dangals (traditional wrestling bouts), which drew large crowds and revived the regionтАЩs age-old sporting traditions, attracting both participants and spectators from across Jammu and nearby areas.
The cultural segment of the festival remained a key crowd-puller, with performances including folk dances, traditional music, live shows, and evening attractions such as Tawi Aarti and laser show, reflecting the rich heritage and artistic diversity of Jammu.
Importantly, the organisers placed strong emphasis on hygiene and cleanliness throughout the event.
Dedicated sanitation teams, proper waste disposal mechanisms and continuous monitoring ensured that the riverfront remained clean and well-maintained despite the heavy footfall.
Highlighting the broader vision of the initiative, JMC Commissioner and CEO Jammu Smart City, Dr Devansh Yadav, stated that the Tawi Mahotsav is not just a celebration of culture and festivities but also an effort to reconnect people with the riverfront while promoting cleanliness, sustainability and civic responsibility.
