A proud moment for Ladakh and the country!
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated India’s first cement-free and concrete-free rock check dam on the Sindhu River in Leh. Built entirely with naturally interlocked stones, the innovative project has significantly increased water storage capacity, creating a pondage area of nearly 500 metres and conserving around 45 million litres of water.
The eco-friendly initiative marks a major step towards sustainable water conservation and climate-resilient infrastructure in the Himalayan region.
