CULP’s Young Researchers to get International exposure of Participatory Research
Two young researchers Nisha and Aksh*ta from CULP’s youth volunteers have been selected and invited for a workshop focusing on participatory research with adolescent girls on 27th November 2023 as a part of an ongoing project conducted by two global organizations namely, AGIP (Adolescent Girls Investment Plan) and GAGE (Gender and Adolescence Global Evidence).
The workshop is in alignment with AGIP’s mission to elevate adolescent girls’ voices and advocate for the participation of youth and young researchers from the Global South in the creation, validation and dissemination of research, GAGE/AGIP have launched a study "What makes good participatory research? A guide and toolkit for promising practices" culminating in the development of a toolkit on what constitutes good participatory research. The toolkit will explore the nature and importance of producing participatory evidence to advance adolescent girls’ wellbeing, and methodological steps on how to do this well.
Both young researchers are law students and aged 20 years, and have been associated with CULP for the last two and half years as youth volunteers, and they were engaged as field researchers and helped the organization to consolidate and analyze the field data for the studies conducted by CULP in collaboration with Girls Not Brides Alliance partners during Covid-19 pandemic on adolescent girls (2020 & 2022).
Nisha has got research articles in her credentials like Divorce- A Bane to our Society in International Journal for Research Trends and Innovation; Drug abuse in India: A Critical Analysis at The Amikus Qriae; An Analysis of Maintenance under Muslim Law in Indian Journal of Law and Legal Research; An analysis of offense relating to marriage in India in Abhidhvaj Law Journal etc
Aksh*ta has been a part of our studies like Re-joining to Schools after COVID-19 Closure, 2023 as she coordinated with field volunteers for data collection (both qualitative and quantitative) through household surveys, individual stakeholders’ interviews and discussions She also became a part of household survey for the assessment of vaccination status in urban areas of Jaipur city (2021).
This workshop is a great learning opportunity for the girls to develop their understanding on the issues of adolescent girls both global and regionally and professional research skills on the subject and would help CULP in devising its strategy for its initiatives for empowering adolescent girls.
