A water softener removes hardness-causing minerals—mainly calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺)—so your water doesn’t cause scaling in pipes, boilers, RO membranes, or equipment.

🔧 How a Water Softener Works (Simple Explanation)
1. Hard Water Enters the System

Raw water containing Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ flows into the softener tank.

2. Ion Exchange Process (Core Working Principle)

Inside the softener is a resin bed (tiny charged beads loaded with sodium ions Na⁺).

👉 As water passes through:

Ca2++2Na(resin)+→Ca (resin) 2++2Na+
Calcium & magnesium stick to the resin
Sodium ions are released into the water
Result: Soft water (no scaling minerals)
3. Soft Water Output

The treated water goes to your plant/home:

No scale formation
Better soap efficiency
Protects pipelines, boilers, RO membranes
🔄 4. Regeneration Cycle (Automatic Cleaning)

After some time, the resin gets “full” of hardness ions and needs cleaning.

Steps:
Backwash – Removes dirt & expands resin
Brine Injection – Salt (NaCl) solution flushes resin
Inside the softener is a resin bed (tiny charged beads loaded with sodium ions, Na⁺).
Rinse – Excess salt washed out
Ready for next cycle
