"Neglected Structural Health Costs a Life: A Wake-Up Call for Civil Engineers and Homeowners After Tragic Incident in Jaipur"

The health of any civil engineering structure is as important as that of human beings. Its structural integrity depends upon the design and ex*****on parameters opted for during planning and construction. Still, its structural integrity over time depends upon the durability and longevity of the ingredients used to form the structure. Very small parameters are ignored during the construction, like testing of water, which may cause reinforcement and concrete degradation. An improper cover leads to water ingress till reinforcement and makes it corrode. The bigger mistake is to ignore its symptoms when structure shows at the very initial stage, just by taking advice from Mason and replastering it. It is the same as someone ignoring the chest pain by considering it to be some gastric problem. And you can not believe this can be a disaster to someone.

Yes, on 17th August 2024, in Jaipur's vicinity, plaster along with a concrete cover fell down over a 12-year-old girl, and she paid for this for her life.

It is a question mark to all the house owners, architects, respective industry stakeholders, and civil engineers to take care of all the things in planning parameters, design parameters, and then the ex*****on stage. And even after its degradation, take it as a challenge and do rehabilitation under a professional, not a Mason or another engineer.

I was honored to defend my research work at the Department of Civil Engineering, Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur. This journey included challenges, motivations, new learning, and invaluable experiences.

I am deeply grateful to my mentor, Prof. Ravindra Nagar, for his unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout this milestone. His multidimensional mentorship contributed to this achievement and paved the way for a successful career ahead.

I want to thank my co-supervisor, the college staff, and my family members, especially Dr. Rakesh Choudhary and Dr. Vishal Singhal, for their tremendous support and unwavering presence during this significant moment.
