The Paithani from Maharashtra
(Price on request)
The Paithani sarees from Paithan, a town close to Aurangabad, weave magical motifs of the Muniya (parrot), Mor (peacock), Kamal (lotus) in very fine silk. Inspired from the Buddhist paintings in the caves of Ajanta, the Paithani is characterised by borders of an oblique square design, and a pallu with a peacock design, and is considered as one of the richest sarees in Maharashtra.

Silk Patola dupattas from Gujarat.
Patola- the ancient art of double ikat weaving is now being revived by NGOs in Gujarat who are using traditional motifs to bring to Patolas a new and refreshing look. There being only three communities who weave Patan Patolas, the supply has been curbed over the years, as the demand for extremely expensive Patolas also fell. Some NGOs are therefore, training weavers in this art and bringing the art of Patolas back.
Watch this space over the weekend for the beautiful Patola sarees from this particular NGO, alongwith many more beautiful winter drapes.
