Design is not always about creating anew. It is sometimes about putting together memories of yesterday to help make a better today. We believe that design is not about leaving behind a signature but merging collective memories to create a new environ.
At AUM our design philosophy can best be stated as 'Indian'. Who even knows who designed our exquisite temples, or the names of our master craftsmen, or the artisans of the immaculately detailed Havelis...? India is not about the designer but about design. It's about democracy in design, creating collective expression and giving expression to a culture.
This residence embodies Indianness. It is family centric and builds on values of recycle , reuse and remodel. Every piece of existing furniture, art, sculpture or accessory gets its due and finds a place in this new home. Spaces are designed and created around what was existing in the former home. Yet nothing looks like a force fit. Every collective memory finds a new home which brings together the family.
The project introduces the concept of brown field projects in interiors.
