आज से मैंने अपने रूटीन में आधा घंटा (सुबह 5 से साढ़े पांच के बीच) कहानी पढ़ने के लिए निर्धारित किया है.
आज चन्द्रधर शर्मा गुलेरी जी की रचना "उसने कहा था" पढ़ी. बचपन में कुछ पल के लिए मिले दो प्रेमियों की ये एक ऐसी कहानी है जिसका अंत विश्वयुद्ध में वीरगति प्राप्त होने के साथ ख़त्म होती है, इस कहानी में युद्ध की पृष्ठभूमि पर एक नई तरह का प्रेम दिखाया गया है। यह प्रेम ऐसा है जिसे समझने के लिए किसी वादे या नाम की जरूरत नहीं है, बस आपसी विश्वास जरूरी है। और, ऐसा विश्वास जो कभी खत्म नहीं होता।

सिपाही लहना सिंह और सूबेदारनी (जिसका पति सूबेदार था, और वो लहना सिंह बॉस भी था) की कहानी में, भले ही उनके बीच कोई स्पष्ट प्रेम नहीं दिखता, फिर भी उनकी आपसी समझ बहुत गहरी है। 25 साल बाद भी सूबेदारनी लहना से कहती है कि उसे उसके पति और बेटे की जान बचानी होगी। लहना भी उसकी बात मानता है और अपने प्राण देकर उनके प्राण बचाता है क्योंकि "उसने कहा था" और वह इसे अपने आखिरी समय तक इसे निभाता है।
