THE FRAME HOUSE, UCASSAIM: The site was found with a 2010s house on it. The process of remodelling involves the redesign of internal space, keeping the ‘frame’ as it was. By adding a large, umbrella-roof, we protect the old building and add space at the top for new demands. Remodelling and re-design projects require slow, careful, and considered interventions that are executed in parallel with the process of design and editing. At each stage, we are forced to check and re-evaluate. This tedious and iterative process enriches the project.

GDL 2025 | PAKHA by The Vernacular Modern

PAKHA offers a way of revisiting the single-blade fan at a more sculptural level, an object as beautiful in stillness as in movement. The blade becomes a stage or canvas for moving art, adding craft as a layer of presence. Through reconfigured mechanics and materials that
historically resisted both wind and the manual force of Hath Pakhas, it invites a contemporary reconsideration of vernacular techniques, evolving the fan into a functional and visually assertive expression of sustainability.

PAKHA by The Vernacular Modern is one of six projects that emerged from the mentorship of the Godrej Design Lab Fellowship in 2025.

The feature and film on the making of Pakha can be viewed at the link in bio.
