Mizoram police lodged theft case against Assam police.

Guwahati: Tension along the Assam-Mizoram border did not seem to be doused as Mizoram police have lodged a theft case on Sunday against Assam police after the latter allegedly seized construction supply and equipment allegedly meant for constructing a bridge near the border area in Hailakandi district.

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) general secretary Maulana Fazlul Karim Qasmi has been temporarily suspended from the party for his alleged social media posts supporting the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal received a warm welcome by the people in the state after he reached Guwahati for a 3-day visit in Assam as a part of Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’.

Fourteen people from across Assam were arrested for alleged social media posts supporting the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

The arrests have been made since Friday night and the accused have been booked under different sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, IT Act and CrPC, police informed.

The accused were identified as Abu Bakkar Sidique, Saidul Hoque from Kamrup rural, Mozidul Islam, Faruk Hussain Khan from Barpeta, Saiyad Ahmed, Arman Hussain from Dhubri, Mujib Uddin Mortuza Hussain Khan from Karimganj.

Maulana Fazul Karim from Darrang, Jawed Mazumder from Cachar, Nadim Akhter from Hailakandi, Khandakar Nur Alom from South Salmara, Maulana Yaseen Khan from Goalpara and Maulana Basiruddin Laskar from Hojai were also arrested in connection with the case.

Don’t arrest people just because you can, or just because you have to file the charge sheet, the Supreme Court has told the police.
