GTalk is officially dead, long live Hangouts
The users find several Gtalk features like file sharing, the invisible-mode, etc. convenient than the Hangout features.
NEW DELHI: Google Talk, the 9-year old instant messaging service, has finally been killed by the internet giant. Popularly known as GTalk, the service will now be replaced by Google's Hangouts; the two have co-existed since 2013.
The news about the retirement of GTalk had been announced by Google's product manager for Voice and Hangouts, Mayur Kamat, on February 16 via a blog post.
Though the service is officially dead, it can still be accessed via third-party applications like Jitsi, Psi, Instantbird, Miranda IM, among many others. However, Google in an email sent to users said, "Please bear in mind that these aren't Google products, so exercise caution when signing in with your Google account."
Among the key features of Google Talk was invisibility mode, which is not available in Hangouts. Also, sharing files is much more convenient on GTalk compared to Hangouts.
However, Hangouts is an important tool in Google's fight against popular messaging apps like WhatsApp. With a browser extension, mobile app and Gmail integration, Hangouts provides a more consistent user experience than GTalk.
Moreover, Hangouts integrates text messages with internet-based instant messages, along with GTalk features like voice and video calling.
4 Simple habits to increase the battery life of your Laptop
Laptops have certainly emerged as a mobile office for many professionals. They do come in handy when compared to the Personal Computers. Although, they help you to be more mobile and not affect your daily work, they do need that extra care. Yes there are 4 simple habits which can help users to ensure that their laptop batteries last for a longer period.
Carefully handle and fully charge your Laptop
Most of us do not use our laptops in a judicious manner, which is one of the reasons for decreased battery life. It is very important that you fully charge your laptop once plugged in. There are many of us who would let the laptop get charged up to 40-80% and start using it again. AVOID doing so. Let it get fully charged before you start using it again. The other thing is ensuring that the laptop is always shutdown (and not in the sleep mode) when it is not going to be used for a longer period. Lastly do not keep your laptop on a couch or your bed, but place it on a table/desk or a dedicated flat surface. This habit can help improve the battery life by as much as 4 times.
Keep them Cool
The modern laptops come with lithium-based batteries which require being stored at temperatures between 50 and 95 degree Fahrenheit. The other measures which should be practiced are cleaning up the air vents so that the airflow of the laptop does not get blocked. Lastly, you should ensure that you are not using the laptop over your lap or on surfaces such as your bed and couch. This not only turns out to overheat your device but also reduces the battery life.
Keep updating your software
Although, you might think that updating the software on your laptop would eat a chunk of your data download limits, but it is more than important to update them on a regular basis. Most companies are trying to develop their software in a manner that it helps in boosting up the laptop battery life. So it would be wise to keep them updated with their latest versions.
Don’t leave your laptop discharged for a long period
Not every one of us would be using our laptop on daily basis. It means that if you are off for a long vacation or its considerable gap after which you would be using the laptop again, make sure you shut it down with at least 50% charge. Storing the laptop with a discharged battery would ruin the battery forever.
