👨‍⚕️ Doctors of Samara State Medical University Clinics removed stones from a transplanted kidney using a high-tech method for the first time in Russia

➡️ For the operation, specialists used one of the most modern and high-tech methods of treating kidney stones - retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS).

✅ This method does not involve any incisions on the human body, so rehabilitation is quick.

Its essence is that a thin, flexible instrument, the uretero-renoscope, is passed through the lower urinary tract and reaches the kidney. Upon reaching the stone, doctors crush it with a laser to the smallest particles.

🙏 Through the surgery, doctors literally saved the life of a 39-year-old patient. Stones formed in a transplanted organ can cause a life-threatening condition, up to and including the removal of the kidney.

💬 "The patient was discharged on the fourth day after surgery. The function of the transplanted kidney was preserved. Thus, we can say that along with the main types of interventions for urolithiasis in patients with transplanted kidney, we can use RIRS, which has a minimal number of complications and is well tolerated by patients. In Russia, this is the first case of using RIRS technology for kidney transplant kidney stones," said Evgeny Kanaev, Head of the Department of Organ Transplantation and Urology at SamSMU Clinics.
