On November 7, 2020, Kamala Devi Harris made history by becoming the first woman in American history elected to the vice presidency. Today, she will officially be sworn in, marking a major turning point for representation in American politics. She is the first woman and Asian-American to be part of a winning presidential ticket, and will be the first Black American to become vice president. She will also be the first graduate of a historically Black college or university—Howard University in Washington D.C.—to assume the position. And she's no stranger to firsts: In 2016, Harris was the first Indian-American woman to be elected to the United States Senate. In 2010, she became the first Black American and first woman to serve as California's attorney general. Scroll through to take a look back at Harris' political journey through the years.
