Iron is an essential mineral for your health (9). It is necessary for transporting oxygen around the body and producing energy. Low iron levels can lead to chronic fatigue.Most of the iron in your body is in your red blood cells. Almost two-thirds of the body’s iron is found in the hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells) present in circulating erythrocytes. Red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to your organs and tissues. Iron deficiency anemia is when there is not enough iron in your red blood cells.
