Technology - A tool with conflicting aspects

What exactly is technology? Internet, laptops, smartphone, robots are the words that our consciousness harbours in connection to technology. But, technology is not just the sophisticated gadgets and services we have at our disposal today. It is an art that harnesses the benefits of science through its application, experimentation and observation.

From the invention of wheel to autonomous vehicles, abacus to desktop computers, technology has come a long way, owing to science and engineering. But has this evolution really made everything better? It has made our lives much more simple and comfortable, undoubtedly. But then why is it deemed to be a 'double edged sword'? Beneath it’s colossal advantages, lie the alarming issues that require attention.

Constant research, experimentations, and persistent endeavours have been poured into making technology what it is today, powerful and efficient. The developments have cut down expenses, making it more accessible. The result is that it is now entwined with our lives, present everywhere. The question is how to handle it the right way since along with the privilege of comfort and ease, comes the tendency to take it for granted.

With the humongous pool of information on the web, we no more find it necessary to dig into shelves in search of books or to visit libraries often. Artificial intelligence adds on to the convenience as the recommendations relevant to the search topic pop up already even if you're not done typing it on the google search. With news at our fingertips, we don't have to open a printed newspaper, especially when applications combine the most interesting headlines and trending topics relevant to a consumer's interest into their personalised feeds.

A smart phone with good internet connectivity has become the basic most medium of entertainment, that gives access to movies, songs, games, videos and everything else needed to lure you into addiction and drain down valuable time.

There are many such overlooked instances from daily life indicating how the technology misfires. (To be continued in part 2)
